Don’t push Tim, cause he’s close to the EDGE

This is havchr writing, not the company! opinions, you know them to be mine!

Tim’s trying not to lose himself.

There has been a bit of talk going on about the excellent iPhone game EDGE, that was pulled from the app store, because some guy complained about EDGE being his trademark. The developers of the iPhone game offered a name change to EDGY, which was met with “some guy” registering the EDGY trademark as well.

This some guy, who operates, well in my opinion, in shady and dubious ways, is also a board member of IGDA.

His name is Tim Langdell.

Here’s nice summary of the situation over at tigsource

How will IGDA respond?

A lot of members, especially independent developers, have voiced their opinion and wish that Tim Langdell is removed from the board of directors, as his actions undermines the goal of IGDA, which is to support developers of games, and advocate developer issues.

There is a petition here

Will this hurt IGDA?

As something like this emerges from a board member of IGDA, one might stop to question;
“what is it exactly that I am getting from being under the IGDA umbrella?”

This is one of the big questions we here in Hamar must ask, as we’ve operated under IGDA Hamar Chapter for very long, but mostly what I feel we get from the “IGDA Hamar Chapter”-naming convention is the name; IGDA.

All work with our chapter is being done locally. Maybe it’s time to transform into an identity that communicates that our goal is to inspire and create development opertunites in Hamar and Norway, maybe it’s time to change into our own identity.

This is not a departure from IGDA Hamar Chapter at all, it’s just a question that I want to put out there.

    There’s a big problem with that petition. You say it’s a petition by IGDA members, but nobody is leaving the member number. When I ran an IGDA-related petition a few months back, I asked people for their member numbers so we could confirm that they were actual members.

    As long as there’s no proof of IGDA membership from the signers, it won’t be an effective petition.

    Yeah, I agree with you on that point.
    Also, there are some of the signatures on the petition which is just childish, an igda-member-number would probably have rectified that.
