The introduction of a new tumbleweeder, Marius
We´re here with a brand new member of Tumbleweed Interactive.
What better way to introduce him, than to ask him some questions?
none.
Here we go
so, first off, what´s your name and where are you from?
- Marius Engli Andersson , and I’m from Hamar
That actually makes him the only one at the office, who is from Hamar.
In games, what are you most passionate about as a developer?
-Animation, to bring characters, backgrounds, etc, into life. That the visual element feels alive.
That the visual art is consistent in regards to animation, high fidelity in art needs to be coupled with high quality animation as well, otherwise it feels wrong you know? Both have to correalate, there needs to be a balance.
And.. as a gamer, when just playing games that others have made?
- Gameplay, I like that you can directly control, and feel in control of the character. Games that manage to bring me into their world, and move me from “playing the game”, to being in a different world.
Like in Assasin creed, the world and environment is fantastic, allthough the game becomes a bit repetitive and the population is a bit stupid, you can just walk around and soak in the impressions, the city. I look forward to the sequel.
So, you just joined us here at tumbleweed. It´s summer.
The sun is shining today. What kind of summer out doors activities do enjoy the most?
-basketball, maybe some skating. Photography as well, I just got myself a new camera.
What tumbleweed projects/games are you working on?
-Umami. I work on backgrounds, a bit on animation. Stuff that has to do with the visuals.
As a graphics artist, who or what inspires you?
- I’ve basicly been drawing all my life. Before I could walk, I drew. During my childhood I watched a lot of cartoons, that has really inspired me. Transformers, GI Joe, saw a lot of that stuff, it was that which inspired me to draw.
And the ever standard question for a new member on the team, though always a hard one; What´s your favorite game, and why?
-Shadow of the colossus.
It gives something extra, something more than being just a game. You get the art angle as well. Something entirely new, a whole new world. They have chosen a different direction, done something new and they have succeeded in every aspect.
It’s awesome to see someone taking that creative risk.
I think I’ve must have played through a couple of times, but I could probably play through it again.
Is there any particular point of the game that you remember vivedly?
-Every time you kill one of those huge creatures. But to pick on moment in particular..
There’s this point where there’s a giant winged beast, a dragon of sorts. When you first encounter it, there’s lush suroundings. There’s a lake, there’s a giant column in the distance where the dragon sits on top, the ambience is breathtaking. The animation is spot on, the world looks alive.
You have to get on top of that giant column, and you start wondering, how the heck are you going to get on top? Solving that environmental puzzle, then beating the boss; that’s the coolest moment in the game for me.
It’s an incredibly epic game.
